Trust the Spirit Within

During his incredible life, Dr. Wayne Dyer helped us to look at ourselves as eternal beings traveling a long road through eternity.  In the following parable, he used humor to emphasize this point and to remind us of the Loving Source who gave us life:

Conversation in the womb: a parable of life after delivery

by Dr. Wayne Dyer

In a mother’s womb were two babies. One asked the other: “Do you believe in life after delivery?” The other replied, “Why, of course.  There has to be something after delivery.  Maybe we are here to prepare ourselves for what we will be later.”

“Nonsense”said the first.  “There is no life after delivery. What kind of life would that be.?”

The second said, “I don’t know, but there will be more light than here.  Maybe we will walk with our legs and eat from our mouths.  Maybe we will have other senses that we can’t understand now.”

The First replied, “That is absurd. Walking is impossible. And eating with our mouths? Ridiculous! the umbilical cord supplies nutrition and everything we need.  But the umbilical cord is so short.  Life after delivery is to be logically excluded.”

The second insisted, “Well I think there is something and maybe it’s different than it is here.  Maybe we won’t need this physical cord anymore.”

The first replied, “Nonsense.  And moreover if there is life, then why has no one ever come back from there? Delivery is the end of life, and in the after-delivery there is nothing but darkness and silence and oblivion. It takes us nowhere.”

“Well , I don’t know,” said the second, “but certainly  we will meet Mother and she will take care of us.”

The first replied “Mother? you actually believe in Mother? that’s laughable.  If Mother exists then where is she now?”

The second said, “She is all around us.  We are surrounded by her.  We are of Her.  It is in Her that we live.  Without Her this world would not and could not exist.”

Said the first: “Well I don’t see Her, so it is only logical that She doesn’t exist.”

To which the second replied,”Sometimes, when you’re in silence and you focus and you really listen, you can perceive Her presence , and you can hear Her loving voice, calling down from above.”

I hope enjoyed this parable and it helped to look at self as an eternal being.  Please visit Youtube for a free mediation on “Trusting the Spirit Within.”  The link to my meditation is:     Namaste

Yoga Nidra

The Process of Yoga Nidra takes us into a very deep state of relaxation.  As we know, deep relaxation is an excellent remedy for stress, anxiety, work pressures, and emotional upheavals.

Although it’s mentioned in old tantric texts, Yoga Nidra was rediscovered about 20 years ago in eastern India by Swami Satyananda Saraswati.  He translates Yoga Nidra as psychic sleep and describes it is a systematic method of inducing complete physical, mental, and emotional relaxation, while maintaining awareness at the deeper levels.

There is a purpose of each phase of this practice, a study of neurophysiology teaches us that each part of the body has a different control center in the brain ——small ones such as the fingers claim a large brain area.  Moving awareness through different part of the body not only relaxes them, but also clears nerve pathways to the brain.

The suggestions to alternate opposite sensations such as heat and cold, heaviness and lightness improve the body’s ability to regain balance and brings the related involuntary functions under conscious control.

Visualization uses symbols or images as a catalyst to provoke a reaction in the subconscious mind.  But since no time is given in this process for the conscious mind to react, you remain detached and the ego becomes temporarily inactive.  This phase helps to resolve suppressed conflicts, desires, memories and sanskaras,  the deep impressions that are the driving force behind Karma.

In each session, you also repeat a sankalpa or resolve.  Simply make a short statement, phrased in positive language and in the present tense.  For example, your resolve could be: “I love myself completely.” The resolve gets embedded in the subconscious , effectively shifting your current reality.

Yoga Nidra accesses subconscious level of the mind that’s underneath even the processing, fantasizing, and imaging level of the mind.

In my researchI learned that Meditation and Yoga Nidra work together, as companion practices, to purify the deepest levels of the mind, and expand conscious states to include what was previously buried in the subconscious.  Finally, the expansion includes the realization of the pure consciousness that permeates all of the levels.

I will be recording a Yoga Nidra process very soon so that you may experience the benefits of this practice.

Easter Weekend

I came across the following quote today and thought it was perfect for this Easter weekend.  It reminds us that we can be transformed by the renewing of our minds.  Also, it connects us to the knowing that at our very center is peace, hope, joy and love.  To revel in the understanding that as we set aside the ego and all its concerns, we connect to Higher Self.   Thus, we are transported beyond our perceived limitations and into a world filled with our greatest desires and hopes:

“Easter is not a time for groping through dusty, musty, tomes or tombs to disprove spontaneous generation or even to prove life eternal.   It is a day to fan the ashes of dead hope, a day to banish doubt and to seek the slopes where the sun is rising, to revel in the faith which transports us out of awareness and the dead past into the vast and inviting unknown.” ~ Author Unknown, as quoted in the Lewiston Tribune.mswp_ReleasingAngerResentment

Relax and Renew

Today  I read the following quote by  Judith Hansen Lasater: “Taking time out each day to relax and renew is essential to living well.”    When I read this quote, I thought once again of how essential it is to reduce the stress in our lives.  To become aware that we have the power within us to take back control of our lives , in order to relax and  to renew our minds with positive and uplifting thoughts and ideas.

I wanted to list a few techniques and principles that will help to reduce stress and bring forth what you desire in your life:

Focus on what you want~ Specific or general.  Remember to focus on you want and not what you don’t want, as your mind focuses on expands and will bring your either, depending on which one you  focus on.

Repeat what you want over and over to yourself ~ and focus on it all the time–or as often as you are able.  You do not want or need to tell anyone else.  Keep this in concentrated form.

Create a strong desire for what you want ~ as this will increase the intensity of your thoughts and focus.

Speak to yourself in positive words ~ indicating that you are anticipating excellent results.

Create visual symbols of what you are creating for your life ~ these can be inner visualizations or outer forms.  Create them to be as lively and colorful as you like.

Make a special notebook of your dreams and wishes ~ It is good to have it written down, but any form will do.  Write down anything you aspire to or would like to have.

Do a “mirror technique’ ~ with yourself by looking into your own eyes while looking into a mirror.  Repeat your powerful , positive phrase while looking into your own eyes.  Louise Hay author of the book: “You Can Heal Your Life.”   Relays that the mirror technique is very powerful and she has used it for decades to manifest what she desires for her life.  It is especially powerful in reducing stress and anxiety and bringing forth thoughts and feelings of calmness and serenity.

Imagine there is a dimmer switch in your mind ~ begin by closing your eyes and taking a deep breath.  Imagine there is a room in your mind with a dimmer switch, this switch can slow down or turn off your thoughts.  Locating the switch and when you are ready, turn the switch down or off completely.   Knowing that you alone control the switch and can turn it back on whenever you like.   As you feel calmer, imagine that you have a calm, still lake in the center of your body.  A peaceful , clear lake filled with fresh , still water.  Let yourself feel calm and still as this lake.  Pause for as long as you like .  When you are ready to return , simply turn your switch back on and slowly open your eyes.

As you do the above techniques, you  begin to take back control of your life, learning how to relax your body and mind.  Manifesting what you desire for you life and bringing it forth into every aspect of your life in very powerful and positive ways.

Protecting Your Energy

Many times we think of protecting our home, cars, valuables and so on yet we do not think of protecting our energy.  This is why we may often feel drained after speaking to a loved one who is ‘needy’ or after being in a crowded mall and other public places. We do not realize that others are unconsciously ‘plugging’  into our energy. We arrive home feeling exhausted and drained yet unsure as to why we feel this way.  Thus, it is very important that we cleanse our energetic field and ‘plug in’ to refill our depleted stores.

One way to cleanse our home, work environment or even car after a long day is through saging. You can purchase a sage stick (also known as ‘smudging’) to burn or you can purchase ‘smokeless ‘ sage that is misted.  Sage cleanses your environment so that you do not pick up the negative energy. It is important to go into corners with the sage stick or spray.  If burning sage, please open a window for proper ventilation and also be careful extinguishing it afterwards.  So when saging, go into each corner and even behind doors , starting in the lowest level of the house as you say whatever prayer is most meaningful to you.

In order to ‘plug in’ and replenish ourselves , it is also important to be centered and grounded. You can imagine a grounding cord that starts at the base of your spine and traveling all the way down into the center of the earth. Then release down the grounding cord, all drain, worry, fear, anxiety, stress, unfinished projects, anyone pulling at your energy etc.  Breathe slowly and deeply as you do this and then Imagine the grounding cord is flexible and goes with you throughout the day.  In this way, you continually release down the grounding cord any negativity and pull up the nourishing energy of the earth through the cord.

Finally, after cleansing and grounding , it is important to shield ourselves.  This can be done in many ways, you can imagine a bubble of white light surrounding you, or a golden net which allows only positive energy to flow in or out.  Or perhaps a column of white light that surrounds you completely.  In this way, you can go about your day and feel the protection of this Divine White Light.  It provides a sense of boundaries so that your energy is not drained by others.  You will feel more energetic and able to love others even more as you come from this place of feeling centered, grounded, protected and safe.

Thursday’s Thoughts

Thomas Szasz  in “Personal Conduct,”  The Second Sin,  1973  stated: “People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself.  But the self is not something one finds, it is something one creates.”

As a therapist specializing in hypnotherapy, I do believe the self is ‘something one creates.’  As the client relaxes deeply in hypnosis,  the critical factor of the mind is set aside so that one can focus deeply on the healing suggestions.  Hypnosis is a very subtle tool and works by changing attitudes , beliefs, habits and perceptions.  Whether experiencing hypnosis during a private session or through listening to hypnosis recordings, one begins to create the True Self that lies within.    This place of creation is one that can be returned to again and again , at any time , in order to find your deepest resources and strengths.  Creating a Self that can relax into life , to easily cope with the ups and downs that are part of normal life.  Creating a Self that feels safe, secure and ease as you go about your daily life.

Through the proper use of hypnosis, one can promote feelings of well-being, achieve goals, release any negative thoughts, experiences and beliefs from the past so they no longer control one’s life in the present.  During the experience of hypnosis, one is being guided within to  a journey of self-discovery and healing.   Leading to the creation of  the True Self within and simultaneously beginning to create an external life filled with peace, serenity, harmony and truth.    It is a journey each of us deserves to take as it leads to the creation of who we truly are and the experience of great joy in that discovery.

Monday’s Musings

As Anais Nin once stated: “There comes a time when the risk to remain tight in the bud was more painful than the risk it took to blossom.”   I think of this quote quite often as I witness my lovely clients traverse their healing journeys.   Many times, they describe the transition period as having ‘one foot in each world.’  It is too painful to return to to the old outdated ways of thinking/doing, yet the new  way is not familiar and may appear risky.  However, through the use of hypnosis, this journey becomes more comfortable as hypnosis is a very subtle tool.   It works by changing attitudes, beliefs, habits and perceptions.  Thus, very gently one begins to step into the is new way of being, step by step.   Allowing the subconscious to open just as a blossom opens to the rays of the sun.   Removing those painful blocks to growth and beginning to build upon wonderful resources and strengths which had always been within.   Bringing forth this healing into all aspects of their daily lives in ways that are very safe, appropriate and comfortable.   They discover that the ‘blossoming’ into who they really are is definitely worth it.  It is a journey each Soul deserves to take as the path leads to the opening to one’s Path, Purpose and Passion.

Holiday Stress

Though the Holidays can be exciting and a time to reconnect with loved ones, they can also cause  stress and anxiety.  Some stressors include:  gifts to be wrapped, financial burdens in buying gifts and other holiday preparations, invitations to parties, obligations, expectations from self and others and many times the burden of family tradition.

However, with practical tips, you can help reduce the stress of the holidays.  Some helpful tips are acknowledging your feelings.  Not forcing yourself to be happy just because it is the holidays.  Taking the time to express your feelings perhaps writing your feelings down in a private journal.  This can be very purging and cleansing.   Also, honoring self is extremely important, thus, it is very essential to learn to say no.   If we say yes we really know we will feel overburdened, overwhelmed and so on, it can leaves us feeling resentful, angry and frustrated.  Friends and family will understand if you cannot participate in every activity or wish to change a family ‘tradition.’

Making time for yourself is also very beneficial , just spending 15 -20 minutes by yourself can re-center , ground and clear your energy.   Please visit for two articles I have written with specific ways to overcome stress , quickly and easily in the midst of any busy day or time.

Happy Holidays and be kind and loving to yourself 🙂
